What are Polycarbonate Lenses

Polycarbonate lens material was invented in the aerospace industry in the 1970's.  Since then, polycarbonate lenses, or polycarb, have become an optical staple for safety eyewear.

Today, many Optometrists and Opticians still use polycarbonate material as an upgrade to conventional plastic lenses.  In fact some optical chains such as Lenscrafters and Vision Works advertise these lenses as a premium lens at a premium price.

At Eye Columbus and the Eye Columbus SHOP, polycarbonate is a Style Standard.  With safety features such as impact resistance and a higher optical quality compared to plastic, polycarbonate lenses are what Eye Columbus Doctors believe is just the beginning to proper visual health.

Generic Polycarbonate Lenses

Eye Columbus only uses polycarbonate lenses from reputable optical lens supplier, that will guarantee the highest optical quality.  Generic polycarbonate lenses are commonly sold online and at discount optical chains.  These lenses, although still made with polycarbonate material, have more imperfections in the lenses and therefore result in poor optical quality.

All Style Standard Lenses purchased in the Eye Columbus SHOP are made of a high-quality polycarbonate no-glare lens material.
